Grocery Shopping – week long summer program
This group will focus on executive function and life skills required to plan, organize and complete daily tasks. This summer the group will be learning about money management, options for transportation, community safety. All these skills will come together with a final group outing to the grocery store!
How the group works
This is a 1 week for 5 half days. Each day will focus on a specific life skill with one final activity or outing the group plans together.
A pre-screen session is required for new students to TCTC to determine eligibility for the group for a fee of $85.

Day 1: Money Basics and Making Choices
- Kids will learn that money is used to buy items, practice identifying basic money concepts, compare prices, make choices within a simple budget, and participate in a pretend checkout routine.
Day 2: Where Are We Going? Planning and Transportation
- Kids will explore different community locations, discuss how far they are from the clinic, and practice deciding whether it makes sense to walk, drive, or take TTC. Kiddies will also practice planning what time to leave and what to bring.
Day 3: Grocery Lists and Finding Items
- Kids will practice creating and using a picture-based grocery list, sorting grocery items into store sections, finding items in a pretend store set-up, and checking items off a list.
Day 4: Social Skills, Safety, and Problem Solving
- Kids will practice asking for help, waiting in line, using expected store behaviours, staying with the group, and problem-solving common challenges that may happen during a community outing.
Day 5: Supported Grocery Shopping Outing and Reflection
- Kids will use the skills practiced throughout the week during a supported grocery shopping outing. Kids will practice following a plan, using a list, finding items, participating in checkout, and reflecting on what went well.
Occupational Therapists
Adeeba Naoreen OT Reg (Ont.)
Adeeba is a registered Occupational Therapist with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Queensland, and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto and the KITE Research Institute at the University Health Network (UHN), where her research focus is on neurorehabilitation. Adeeba has clinical experience across a variety of settings, including paediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, rehabilitation, hospital, private practice, and community settings. She has a strong interest in sensory integration and supporting children and families through interactive, evidence-based therapy.
Evelyn Lee OT Reg. (Ont.)
Evelyn is a passionate occupational therapist with a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto and a
Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology and Health from York University. Evelyn had the opportunity to have her clinical placements in a private pediatric clinic in Toronto and at an International School for Special needs in Trinidad. During her clinical placement, she gained valuable experience working with children who had sensory processing disorders, fine and gross motor delays, handwriting difficulties, feeding challenges, and social and behavioural challenges. With her creativity and technological knowledge, Evelyn strives to create unique plans for children and their families. She is determined to expand her expertise in paediatric occupational therapy feeding interventions by completing additional training in paediatric feeding and handwriting.
Each 3-hour session is led by OTs Adeeba Naoreen, Evelyn Lee and student volunteers.

- Format:
- All 5 sessions are in-person.
- There will 1 community outing.
- Pre-screening: Required for new clients to determine group readiness. This consists of a 30 minute virtual/in-person assessment ($95)
- Pre-screen to be scheduled prior to group sessions.
- Dates:
- July 27-31, 2026 OR
- August: 10 – 15, 2026
- Program dates are subject to change based on enrollment.
- Minimum 3 children. Max 6 children.
- Time: 9:00-12:00 PM
- Fees: $1500 ($300/session, for 5 sessions)
- No refunds for missed sessions.
- This group may be covered as an occupational therapy service under your extended health insurance plan. Please check with your insurance provider for details.

This program is a good fit for participants who:
- are 8 years old and up.
- Enjoy learning and participating in small groups.
- Can engage in structured activities for about 30 minutes with movement breaks.
- Are developing early reading, writing, and math skills.
- Can follow basic safety expectations and participate in community outings.
- Can manage group and community settings with support and regulation strategies.
- Are independent with toileting or require reminders only.
